Once there lived a cobbler in a village. He passed his days happily. He had a rich neighbour who was a banker. One day the banker asked the cobbler, “How much do you earn in a year?”
Money Cannot Buy Happiness
Once there lived a cobbler in a village. He passed his days happily. He had a rich neighbour who was a banker. One day the banker asked the cobbler, “How much do you earn in a year?” The cobbler replied. “I never think in that way. I live from hand to mouth.” Then the banker said, “I am sorry for that. You must be living in a great poverty.” The cobbler laughingly said, “But I am happy with what I can earn.”
The next morning the banker again came to the cobbler and said, “Look, my friend! I want to remove your poverty. I have brought fifty thousand taka with me. Take these money and remove your poverty.” At first the cobbler refused to take the money. But finally the banker had to manage him to take the money.
Now a new thinking cross over the cobbler’s head. He thought, “Someone might steal the money.” He could not find any safe place to keep the money. Then he dug a hole in his hut and kept the money there. But he could not sleep a little in the night. His sleep fled away from his eyes. He had money, but no peace of mind. Then the cobbler realized that money cannot buy happiness.
